President Mnangagwa encourages investors to invest in Higher and Tertiary Education infrastructure

Investors have been called upon to invest in Higher and Tertiary Education infrastructure. The call was made by the President and Chancellor of all State Universities, Cde E.D. Mnangagwa on 09 March at an Investment Conference that was organized by the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development that was held at the Harare International Conference Centre.

The President highlighted that research innovation is important in line with sustainable development goal number 4.  He said there are many windows of investment in Higher Education in Zimbabwe that could be realized through BOT, BOOT and PPPs. He added that government will continue building institutions of higher learning that will create an environment where talent will be rewarded.

The Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Professor Amon Murwira reiterated the importance of learning infrastructure saying it plays a major role in ensuring that  graduates that transform knowledge into goods and services will be produced. “Universities and colleges should be revenue centres and not cost centres,” he added.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Dr Desire Sibanda, said education is very important and plays a catalytic role in economic development and, therefore, there is need to improve the learning environment through investing in infrastructure.

In addition to Universities, colleges and students, the conference was also graced by both local and international investors that include Fundi, Liquid Telecom, Cora Core, ZIDIC, Index Solutions Africa, ZIMRE, CBZ  and InfraDev, among others.
