THE stage has been set for the inaugural Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) Midlands Regional Campus Miss and Mr ZOU Pageant that will be held at Midlands Hotel in Gweru on April 7, 2018. The event will start at 7pm. A total of 19 participants, 11 ladies and eight men will square off in this prestigious event.

The event, a brainchild of Midlands Regional Campus Student Representative Council (SRC) will see the top winners at the regional event representing their Regional Campus at this year’s Vice Chancellor’s Tournament set for Mashonaland West capital Chinhoyi, in the Miss ZOU national pageant competition.

Speaking from his Midlands base, Midlands’s Regional Campus SRC president Phillip Kay Naiti said they were more than ready to shock Harare Regional Campus who dominated the national event last in Mutare, providing Miss ZOU, first princess and Miss Personality while only Privilege Masvanhise made it into the top three as second princess.

Naiti added that ZOU students must partake in other activities done by the University to try and do away with the notion that ZOU is for the elderly.

The event started as a pilot project during the 2016 Vice Chancellor’s Tournament in Bulawayo and grew in stature in 2017 during the same tournament with the introduction of the Miss ZOU national on the VC’s Tournament calendar. However, university authorities, through Centre for Student Management (CSM) have made it clear that Miss ZOU pageant has since become an annual event.

Midlands Regional Campus SRC secretary for Sports and Entertainment Cynthia Goya urged students from other institutions to come and support this cause.

Entry fees are as follows; students from any institution with identification cards will pay $2 while those with no I.Ds will pay $3. VIP tickets will be going for $5. Refreshments will be made available at standard price.

The audience should brace for breathtaking entertainment from dance groups as well as a number of local artists including Legion of the Tinodhakwa here boys dzangu hitmaker.
