Harare Regional Campus rules roost in debate competitions

HARARE Regional Campus ruled the roost in the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) Inter Regional Campuses Debate and Public Speaking competition that was held at Zesa Training Centre in the capital recently.

Harare Regional Campus, led by their Student Representative Council (SRC) president Tariro Mukunga and Avis Chidakacha ruled the roost in the debate category followed by arch rivals Bulawayo Regional Campus, who came second. Gift Sibanda and Brendon Mzinge represented Bulawayo Regional Campus.

Matabeleland South pulled a shocker, coming out third with Arnold Banda and Rutendo Mafuva representing the Regional Campus.

On fourth position was Matabeleland North’s Joe Phiri who partnered Skhathele Ncube from Matabeleland South.

Levison Gutu of Masvingo was voted the best in Public Speaking, with Sibanda of Bulawayo bouncing back in Public Speaking where he was voted second best while Mazvita Mukanda of Midlands Regional Campus came third.

In public speaking, one is given three seconds to think of a topic which you are then asked to present it in three minutes.

The Debate and Public Speaking event was held to help the institution leadership to select students who would represent the university at this year’s Pan African Universities Debate Championships in December and the Impact Africa Debate and Public Speaking tournament to be held in Ghana this month.
