ZIMBABWE OPEN UNIVERSITY TOURS NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF ZIMBABWE

Harare Regional Campus coordinators and students of the Records and Archives Management pose for a group photo with staff of the National Archives of Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe Open University students studying for the Bachelor of Science Honours in Records and Archives Management went for a field trip to the National Archives of Zimbabwe recently. The group of students, from Harare Regional Campus, was accompanied by the National Archives of Zimbabwe regional coordinator, Ms Kudzayi Mbauya.

National Archives of Zimbabwe is the national library of Zimbabwe. All researches have to be deposited into the national library for use by future generations.

The National Archives of Zimbabwe took the opportunity to show the ZOU students how documents are being kept and preserved for posterity.

Preservation chemicals are used to protect the documents from damage.

Speaking at the occasion, Ms Mbauya said that it was important for students to have first hand information on recording and archiving.

The students benefited a lot through experiencing things that they had only learnt theoretically in class, and the exercise would help them throughout their course programmme of records and archives management.
