The Zimbabwe Open University held a 7-day Early Childhood Development (ECD) training workshop which ran from 15 to 21October 2018 in Harare. More than thirty students, comprising both male and females, attended the workshop.

Among the attendees were ECD Centre owners, ECD teachers and ECD students who have a passion to teach the infant grades.

The students were impressed with the content provided by the University. During the workshop, the attendees were taken on a tour of Zengeza Early Childhood Development in Chitungwiza.

Some of the students gave thumbs up to the Zimbabwe Open University for rolling out such short courses to the nation, and expressed a desire to start their own ECD centres. They testified that the ECD training workshop was worthy attending.

Speaking during the workshop, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof Dambudzo said that the Faculty was responding to the Government’s call for universities to connect with the society, solve community problems and bring about transformation of societies through higher education.

“In view of this, we thought about embarking on short courses that would empower people in our community to do whatever they are doing better than yesterday and our first course in this regard is the Early Childhood Development (ECD) short course. We will roll out more courses in the near future,” said Prof Dambudzo
