A Resource Mobilisation workshop was conducted by the Resource Mobilisation Committee (RMC) at the Management Training Bureau (MTB) in Msasa from the 26th to the 27th March 2019. This initiative came about after the realization that the Education 5.0 thrust required the University to invest in more infrastructure such as technology, laboratories, innovation hubs, industrial parks and commercial units.
The workshop was attended by the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Francis Themba Mugabe and staff members from various academic and administrative departments.
The workshop which aimed at coordinating and spearheading resource mobilising activities for the entire University had the following objectives: to identify critical areas which needed funding in the university, to come up with resource mobilisation strategies, to prioritise resource mobilisation strategies/ activities, to understand how to maintain good relationships with donors and development partners, to identify potential donors and income sources and to form Resource Mobilisation sub- committees.
The workshop was characterised by combined learning sessions where concepts and examples of resource mobilization strategies were discussed.
The committee agreed to keep a focused approach which will enable the monitoring of progress from time to time. Thus priority areas were identified that needed to be targeted initially and those that could be added later.Three sub-committees were agreed upon and constituted. These were: Learner Centered Infrastructure for Teaching and Learning (Learner CITL), Scientific Research, Innovation and Learners Laboratories (Science RIL Labs) and Income Generating and Diversification Projects (Income GDPs).
In order to address the priority areas identified earlier, the committee discussed strategies which will enable it to achieve the planned and targeted focus areas. Potential donors for the priority projects were identified. The meeting stressed on the need to maintain relationships with donors and funders through various initiatives such as hosting events for stakeholders, communication using various media channels and avenues like newsletters, brochures, and integrated annual reports among others.
