The Zimbabwe Open University joined other local universities for the annual Zimbabwe Universities Sports Association games held in Bindura recently.
The association comprises of a number of affiliated member universities in Zimbabwe namely Africa University, Bindura University of Science Education, Chinhoyi University of Technology, Lupane State University, Midlands State University, National University of Science and Technology, Great Zimbabwe University, Gwanda State University and the Zimbabwe Open University.
The main objective of this yearly event is to enable institutions of higher learning to network and also cross reference academic and social matters. The games expose the participants to different cultures, as they mix and mingle, sharing ideas and experiences with their fellow University staff.
The institutions of higher education competed in a variety of sporting disciplines that include soccer, netball, volleyball, basketball, darts and pool.
The Zimbabwe Open University teams had mixed fortunes. The University’s pool team came out second best, while the men’s soccer and basketball teams were number three, respectively.
The women’s volleyball team also did not disappoint as they beat the Great Zimbabwe University in the semifinals.
