THE INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS OFFICE
Internationalisation of higher education has become topical locally and internationally. In that vein, Universities are frantically and tenaciously aligning policies and procedures to carve a niche in the international market. In line with the Zimbabwe Open University thrust to expand its frontiers beyond the Zimbabwean border, the International Office was incepted in the year 2010 as a Virtual Campus which was transformed into a fully-fledged International Office in July 2020. The establishment of the International Office brought about meaningful Internationalisation of ZOU offerings in the areas of student and staff mobility, staff and student exchange programmes, international partnerships and collaborations, cross border teaching and international research collaborations
Application Process for international students
Visit the ZOU website and apply through apply online link. You can also download the application form from the Zimbabwe Open University website (www.zou.ac.zw). Complete the application form, scan and attach together with the following documents to the application online platform on the ZOU website
Diploma, Undergraduate and Master’s Degrees
- Birth certificate
- Educational certificates
- Professional certificates
- Marriage certificate-where applicable
- US$10.00 application fee deposit slip
Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) and Doctor of Philosophy (D.Phil) candidates
In addition to the above documents, DPhil and MPhil applicants must also attach the following:
- Deposit slip for US$30.00 application fee
- Masters Abstract
- Thesis proposal (10-20 pages)

Students studying though the International Office sit for examinations in the country of residence. Zimbabwean Embassies proctor examinations but where Embassies are not available; the University engages reputable Colleges and Universities to proctor examinations in respective countries.
Passports and Study Permits
All international students must have passports from their respective governments and study permits from Zimbabwe before they can enter the country. In the event that one does not have a visa, he/she should produce USD$200 as proof and other study permit requirements to the University International Students Office on arrival.
Please be advised that no international students will be registered at the University unless one possesses a valid study permit.

- Passport pages showing applicant’s details x3
- Proof of registration x3
- Proof of accommodation x3
- Previous semester’s results x3
- Current Chest x-ray certificate x3 not less than 2months
- Passport size photographs x3
- Proof of payment of fees x3
- Police clearance
What you receive at the immigration office
- A temporary PRN if it is the first time to apply.
- Blue/Yellow receipt which should be kept safe at all times
Please take note:
- A student should always check on the date of expiry of his / her PRN.
- A student is also required to renew his / her permit every year and failure to do so a statutory fine of US$100 will be charged
