Bachelor of Science Honours in Local Governance [BSHLG]

The minimum duration for the programme shall be four years and the maximum shall be eight years. The programme can also be completed in three years for students whose nature of work during study is in line with Local Governance. They will be assessed for work related learning at their respective workplaces in the second year. Admission of students on this special arrangement shall be based on the provision of evidence of the relevant employment and will be approved by the Department.

 

  • To be admitted to the programme, the applicant must have passed a minimum of 5 “O” levels with a C or better in both Mathematics and English Language at GCE Ordinary Level or ZNQF equivalent standard.

                                          Or

  • Gained advanced standing through Accreditation of Prior Learning local governance related area

 

Notwithstanding the provisions of the General Regulations for Undergraduate degrees governing special entry to undergraduate programmes, a student who has passed Mathematics at another university or obtained full professional qualification from professional bodies or with at least two “A” Level passes in Logic, Philosophy, Sociology, Accounting, Economics, Management for Business, and Communications with a substantial qualitative or quantitative component will be considered as a replacement for the “O” Level Mathematics entry requirement

The curriculum for the Bachelor of Science Honours in Local Governance comprises: 28 courses, work-related learning which is equivalent to two semester courses, and supervised dissertation.  These are summed as follows: 

            (a)  28 written examination courses:

            (b)   work related learning, (Can either be undertaken in second year for students with special arrangements (refer to section 2.0) and in third year for students under normal arrangements)

            (c)   supervised dissertation.
