The Department was established in 1999 and officially registered its first Intake in September 2000. This followed an intensive Needs Assessment Survey carried out by the University in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare in 1998/99. The Degree programme started off as a general degree, Bachelor of Science in Nursing Science (BSNS) and upgraded to an Honours Degree program in 2012. Areas of specialization identified included Nurse Education, Maternal and Child Health, Community Health Nursing, and Occupational Health and Safety. Added later was specialization in Management and Leadership.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must have a minimum of 5 “O” Level passes including English language, Mathematics and a Science Subject at Grade C or better (excluding Fashion and Fabrics, Wood work, Metal Work, Technical Graphics and Building). Must be registered with the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe as a General Nurse and possess a current practicing certificate and with a minimum of at least 2 years post qualification experience.
