The Department of Mathematical Sciences started as the Department of Mathematics and Statistics when the University became fully operational through an act of parliament in March 1999. The general degree programme had a total 32 modules without computer applications and the research project. The general degree has resulted in many students graduating and working in the country and also in countries in the region and also abroad, implying that it is a very useful and important programme. The BSc Honours degree was also initiated and the first cohort completed their 4 year study at the end of Semester 1, 2023. The honors degree now has incorporated computer applications, the research project and a few electives.
