Summary of the Faculty
The Faculty of Commerce aims to deliver quality and excellent teaching in business and entrepreneurship. It currently trains graduates who are competent in accounting, banking and finance, entrepreneurship, internal auditing, human resource management, marketing, public administration, and local governance studies. The faculty embraced Education 5.0 whose pillars are teaching, research, community service and engagement, innovation, and industrialisation.
The Faculty of Commerce consists of a cohesive team comprising four professors, 12 PhD holders and 20 lecturers who collaborate to create and deliver business courses, mentor students, undertake community service and consultancy, and publish scholarly work. Assisting students to develop and establish business start-ups is at the core of the faculty’s entrepreneurship training.
The Faculty of Commerce offers nine undergraduate, and two masters programmes as well as business-related higher degrees.

Entry Requirements: A minimum of five O level passes including English and Mathematics at grade C or better. Prospective students with ZIMCHE-accredited diplomas in a relevant field will receive level exemptions of one to two years.
- Bachelor of Accounting Honours (2 years)
Entry Requirements: Applicants must have advanced diplomas in accounting such as SAAA, IAC, ICSAZ, CIMA, ACCA, HEXCO Higher National Diploma or any other advanced diploma from a recognised institution in which accounting component is strongly represented.
- Bachelor of Banking and Finance Honours (2 years)
Entry Requirements: Applicants must have advanced diplomas in banking and finance from a recognised institution or a recognised professional qualification in which banking and/or finance component(s) is (are) strongly represented.
- Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting Special Honours (1 year)
Entry Requirements: Applicants must have a basic or general degree in accounting from a recognised institution.
- Bachelor of Commerce in Banking and Finance Special Honours (1 year)
Entry Requirements: Applicants must have a basic or general degree in banking and/or finance from a recognised institution.
Master’s Programmes
- Master of Applied Accountancy (18 months) (Online Weekend School only)
Entry Requirements: A minimum of a first degree in accounting from a recognised university with a degree class of 2.2 or better or its equivalent plus a minimum of two years working experience in an accounting environment.
- Master of Business Administration (2 years)
Entry Requirements: An undergraduate degree in any discipline from ZOU or any other recognised university with a degree class of 2.2 or better.
- Master of Science in Banking and Finance (18 months)
Entry Requirements: An undergraduate degree in banking and finance from ZOU or any other recognised university with a degree class of 2.2 or better
Master of Commerce in Marketing Strategy (2 years)
Entry Requirements: An undergraduate degree in marketing from ZOU or any other recognised university with a degree class of 2.2 or better
Master of Human Capital Management (2 years)
Entry Requirements: An undergraduate degree in human resource management from ZOU or any other recognised university with a degree class of 2.2 or better
Higher Degrees
- Master of Philosophy (2 years)
Entry Requirements: A relevant undergraduate degree in any business-related discipline with a degree class of 2.1 or better.
- Doctor of Philosophy (3 years)
Entry Requirements: A relevant master’s degree in any business-related discipline with a degree class of merit or better from a recognised institution.
- Joint Zimbabwe Open University/Chalimbana University (Zambia) Integrated PhD (3 years)
Entry requirements: A relevant master’s degree with a merit or better from a recognised institution.
