THE INSTITUTION

 

The Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) is the largest and comprehensive Open & Distance electronic Learning (ODeL) university in Zimbabwe that offers lifelong learning in an affordable and flexible manner.

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced professionals to fill vacant posts that has arisen within the University.

 

POST 1: DIRECTOR, ICT (REPORTING TO THE VICE CHANCELLOR)

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contributing to institutional capacity building and teaching and learning activities on and using ICT’s;
  • Planning and overseeing all Information Technology Systems and their evaluation according to established standards;
  • Reviewing and establishing ICT policies and management systems to support the implementation of the Zimbabwe Open University strategies in line with Education 0;
  • Ensuring efficient and effective access to ICT services by staff and students to support the core business of the University;
  • Digitalizing of core University business systems;
  • Analysing and determining the overall ICT requirements for the Zimbabwe Open University;
  • Monitoring and evaluating ICT equipment and software to ensure functionality and efficiency and advising on proper utilisation of the same;
  • Identifying the need for upgrades and configurations of ICT Systems to support the needs of every department;
  • Directing the maintenance of the state-of-the-art Campus Wide Computer Network at the University;
  • Suggesting and leading the University in the utilisation of emerging ICT Systems in the daily business of the institution, and
  • Interpreting the ICT needs of the University Strategy Plan through the development of an appropriate Enterprise Architecture

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

The University is looking for an inspired Director, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with the following qualifications and experience;

  • A minimum qualification of a Master’s degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/Administration; or equivalent;
  • A Degree in Information Technology or equivalent;
  • A minimum of five (5) years relevant post qualification managerial experience in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in a University setup;
  • Experience in an institution utilizing ODeL is an added advantage; and
  • Membership of a relevant professional board is a pre-requisite.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with various University stakeholders;
  • Good Management skills;
  • Organisational management and development;
  • Knowledge of data analysis and reporting;
  • Diligent and firm with high ethical standards.

POST 2:        MANAGER, WORKS AND ESTATES (1 POST)

The Incumbent will report to the Director, Works and Estates.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Managing University’s infrastructure and estates;
  • Conducting periodic inspection of buildings and facilities and making appropriate recommendations;
  • Planning, setting up and implementation of maintenance programmes to ensure the department achieves its mandate effectively and efficiently;
  • Rental negotiations, review of lease agreements and office space allocations;
  • Supervising all maintenance works on/ and repairs to buildings;
  • Working with the Building Committee in the initiation, designing and implementation and appraisal of construction and refurbishment programmes, projects and activities;
  • Providing secretarial services to the Building Committee;
  • Any other duties delegated by the Director, Works and Estates.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Rural and Urban Planning/Architecture/Building Technology or Civil Engineering;
  • Post graduate degree in Administration or Management from a recognized University will be an added advantage;
  • Membership of a relevant professional board is a pre-requisite;
  • Three (3) years relevant post qualification experience in a managerial position; and
  • Experience at a managerial position in a university will be a distinct advantage;

POST 3:        SPORTS AND STUDENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES COORDINATOR: CENTRE FOR STUDENT MANAGEMENT UNIT (1 POST)

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Planning, coordinating and implementing student sports activities and development programmes across all Campuses;
  • Serving as the University’s liaison with ZUSA and other relevant bodies;
  • Organizing inter-campus and inter-university competitions and events;
  • Promoting student wellness, leadership, and personal development initiatives;
  • Maintain records and reports on student participation and programme outcomes;
  • Collaborating with academic and administrative departments to integrate co-curricular activities into the student experience.
  • Any other duties delegated by the Dean of Students.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Sports Science;
  • A relevant Masters degree is an added advantage; and
  • At least two (2) years relevant experience in running university sport.
